She Still Believes

She still believes
Love exists
As long as
Her love isn’t taken for
Weakness
She works so hard
Not to be weak
She’s tried so hard
Not to take the bait
To fall again for the
Cruel, sharp hook
Failing…
To make it work
For her little one’s sake
Escaping…
Finally
Was so hard to take
She’s so damn…
Scared
To repeat yesterday‘s
Mistake
She tries so hard
To move forward
She’s so drained
By yesterday
All the pain
Makes her ask
Where it went so…
Why it went so…
Wrong
She’s left alone
Looking for answers
To suffering’s question:
Why does caring cause
So much pain?
Her compass feels
Backwards or broken
Where is east and west,
North and south?
What is right and wrong,
Good and evil?
She’s spinning, confused
Doubting what she’s believed
For so long
But hope like a candle,
Still flickers
She still believes
In the light of Love
When she wakes with morning’s eyes,
Her soul still craves
Being held, safely
Being kissed, gently
Being carried, like a
Summer breeze
Being loved,
From the inside out
And now, quite suddenly,
Fate has offered an
Unexpected reward
That feels like…
The opposite
of fear
of sorrow
of loneliness
But she is scared
Worried her compass
Might still be broken
Or worse…
She may not deserve
What God says she does
Will she retreat?
Into yesterday
Or will she proceed?
Into tomorrow
